ITOHAN (CRY FOR MERCY) 5

 ITOHAN (CRY FOR MERCY)

EPISODE 5

Nurse Osas searched frantically for Itohan.

Where could this lady be? My word. I can almost swear I left her here. It’s been a week since she...”

She paused in her thoughts... “or could it be that?”

“Dont say a word or I’ll kill you.”

Nurse Osas heard the voice behind her, she felt the cold metal on her neck. Her heart froze.

She was engrossed in her search for Itohan that she forgot to keep the doors locked.

“Lord save me.” She mumbled under her breath as she was shoved into the van.

“if you want to stay alive, shut up!”  one of the men shouted.

She prayed silently as tears dropped down from her eyes.

Where is Itohan?” The rough looking masked man shouted again, pouring the 6th bucket of water on Nurse Osas.

Nurse Osas recognized the voice as the one who shut her up earlier. She exhaled slowly, absorbing the pain from the bonds on her wrist and cold water dripping from her hair bent downwards.

Where is Itohan?” she thought “wherever she may be, she has to be fine, God’s work on her can’t go to waste.”

what did she try to tell me earlier?” she thought “I wish I had waited, just a second, maybe I would have heard something, anything. I sometimes get too busy, little things...” “Or I remember she...” she wept silently but not loud enough for her oppressors to hear.

“It’s been 3 days now and she has refused to open up. Let’s call him. He may have to come here himself.” A fellow rogue colleague spoke up in frustration.

“She stays mute, doesn’t shed a tear and gets me enraged.”

“Calm down will you?” masked rogue ordered

“You, put the call through.” Masked rogue ordered a fellow colleague who was peacefully chewing on a groundnut from a bottle. “you good for nothing,” he throws something at him. “Do something meaningful with your life.”

“Like what we are doing now right?” Groundnut chewing fellow replied while dodging the missile.

Who is he? Who is coming to meet us?”  Nurse Osas thought as she sat blindfolded and bound.

“Lord save me” nurse Osas prayed silently.” I did this because you asked me to, I don’t know if I will make it out of here but I plead with you, save me. But not my will, your will be done. She had dedicated her life to helping people, saving lives as she stayed unmarried due to her inability to have children from her past lifestyle

“Why is she mute?” HE asked masked rogue.

“Boss we have tried...”

“Tried what? This is the third day and you can’t get a woman to give you simple information. You are all useless.” Enraged, HE kicked a table, it rolled to the other side and sustained some mechanical damage.

Nurse Osas shook in her seat. For the first time since she got here, she felt fear. The voice was strangely familiar. She inhaled the smoke of marijuana and tried to cough but her mouth was gagged.

“Get the stupid tape off her mouth moron.” HE screamed at masked rouge who strangely stayed masked.

“You say she’s mute but you keep a gag on her, silly.” HE spat angrily.

Masked rogue felt a little irritated but hid his feelings

“auntie, talk oh, where is Itohan?”

“Jesus loves you, why don’t you come to Him so He will save you and give you a better life.” Nurse Osas said with a voice that could pass for a whisper.

“That’s it” HE shouted. “Ive had enough of this shenanigans. I’ll kill you and still find Itohan regardless. This is a waste of time. Kill her. Slow but painful.”

The other rogues quickly untied Nurse Osas from the chair she was bound to with her hands still bound behind her and lay her face down on a table.

“Looks like a sacrifice” Groundnut chewing fellow whispered with a chuckle to his counterpart who hushed him and passed a look at the boss.

Masked rogue took of his mask. He took out the walkie talkie from his belt line and communicated to the 4th man who was the last man on standby checking out the area to bring some tools.

Nurse Osas with tears in her eyes and a smile decided to look at her killers before she dies. The blind fold was removed from her eyes and the first person she looked upon was masked rogue who was unmasked this time. She gasped.

“Peter!”

OBLIVION

She was out later than usual. She just had a lot of work to cover so she could earn more and rest too. She never stayed out this late. As a single mum, in a new town, she made sure she was always available for her eleven year old Misheal.   It started as a light shower, then a heavy downpour. Disappointed looking at her titanium plated wristwatch which was already washing off, she checked the time at the same time recalling when she first got the watch.   It was a lovely Sunday afternoon. Elvis hurried to meet up with her from his recess. He bought her lunch, a plate of chicken and fries with a cup of cappuchino her favourite.   She was overjoyed when she saw the simple gift. Even though it was not worth much, but coming from Elvis even in the midst of the financial crisis he faced, it was everything.  " You didn't have to do this Elvis." She said half smiling, mouth agape, fingers covering her mouth hiding her expression.  "I'd do anything for you Ma ...

THE WAR

THE WAR ...And that was how the war started. Gun shots everywhere, commotion, fire, people screaming. I woke up in shock wondering if it was a dream. My mum was heavy with my brother. Dad was trying soo hard to get the family together.    Mother snatched me from the bed, strapped me on her back. Dad held her hand and we made for the exit.    Mum was very heavy, fat, swollen and big bellied. I fear for how she will make it.   Admist screams and panic, my dad ran with mum and I into the wild for safety.   At that point, I recalled my favourite song and started singing. Dad placed a palm on my mouth with a stern face which meant I should keep shut. I smiled wondering why I could not sing in the midst of the fire works.   Mum shrieked in pain. "What is it Honey?" My dad asked "I think I'm losing him" my mum replied. "O God not now" my dad whispered in frustration. "What do you need? What can I do t...
