ITOHAN (CRY FOR MERCY) 4

ITOHAN, Episode 4

Miss Osas had had a rough day, as a nurse, it was not uncommon to be plagued by migraine. While she massaged her fore head with words of prayer, she heard silent sobs. It should be silent but she heard she moved towards it’s sound and it led her to Itohan's ward.
“Are you okay my child?” she asked.
Itohan was amazed at such nice gesture from a stranger but she kept it locked up. She could be doctor’s spy.
‘Talk to me please, you look distressed.” Nurse Osas pleaded
Something spoke to her inner consciousness, this could be a good friend, the voice said.

Itohan just found out she was infected by the virus. It was from doctor who after realizing his sad status, kept Itohan prisoner to fulfill his beastly urges.
“I know someone who loves you and can save you if only you yield to him.” Nurse Osas said
Another ‘him’ again, Itohan thought, she had had enough of doctor already, no more men in her life.
“I can’t go on like this ma. How many men do I have to yield to before I can get be free?.” She blurted amidst sobs.
“How many men? What are you talking about?”
“I'm scared, I can’t say anything, he might hear us.” Itohan pleaded.
“Who?” the confused Nurse Osas asked
“Doctor...” Itohan fearfully whispered.
Nurse Osas was amazed, Dr.Ohis, she thought, that man was not capable of hurting anyone. There should be more to the young lady’s story.
“Whats your name, my child?” She asked
“Itohan”
“Have you had anything to eat today?” Nurse asked
‘She offered me food?’ Itohan thought. She felt comfortable with Nurse Osas.
‘Maybe she can help' She thought with her eyes closed.
“Do you have pains in your eyes, why did you shut them?” Nurse Osas asked looking astonished at the lady’s strange attitude.
‘She asks soo many questions’ “I’m fine ma and I’m very hungry.”
“Come, my dear, it’s getting late and I have to go home, my shift is over. Do you have somewhere to stay?”
Itohan nodded in the negative.
Nurse Osas grabbed her bag while softly tapping the wig on her head with a biro in a bid to remember not to forget anything important.

“What are you thinking of sir?” Nurse Osas asked Doctor who seemed lost in thoughts.
Doctor ran his fingers through his hair, adjusted his tie and lay his eye glass on the table.
“Nurse, I’m fine.” He stood up, looked through the window.
“I don’t know if you saw...” He blinked his eye suddenly mindful of what he was about to say
“Never mind.” He sat down and pretended to be busy with his computer.
Nurse Osas stood by the door, waiting patiently.
He noticed she was still standing.
“oh I’m sorry, why are you here again?” He asked
“you sent for me but I’m yet to know why you did.”
“oh I did” he replied absentmindedly.
“Sorry, I will see you later.” He wore his eye glasses, took his car keys.
“Take care of the hospital, tell the others, I want to drive down town.”
“okay sir”
He hurriedly headed for the door, almost stepping on Nurse Osas.
“What is eating doctor up?” she sighed and headed back to her station.

Nurse Osas searched frantically for Itohan.
“Where could this lady be? My word. I can almost swear I left her here. It’s been a week since she...”
She paused in her thoughts... “or could it be that?” ...

OBLIVION

She was out later than usual. She just had a lot of work to cover so she could earn more and rest too. She never stayed out this late. As a single mum, in a new town, she made sure she was always available for her eleven year old Misheal.   It started as a light shower, then a heavy downpour. Disappointed looking at her titanium plated wristwatch which was already washing off, she checked the time at the same time recalling when she first got the watch.   It was a lovely Sunday afternoon. Elvis hurried to meet up with her from his recess. He bought her lunch, a plate of chicken and fries with a cup of cappuchino her favourite.   She was overjoyed when she saw the simple gift. Even though it was not worth much, but coming from Elvis even in the midst of the financial crisis he faced, it was everything.  " You didn't have to do this Elvis." She said half smiling, mouth agape, fingers covering her mouth hiding her expression.  "I'd do anything for you Ma ...

THE WAR

THE WAR ...And that was how the war started. Gun shots everywhere, commotion, fire, people screaming. I woke up in shock wondering if it was a dream. My mum was heavy with my brother. Dad was trying soo hard to get the family together.    Mother snatched me from the bed, strapped me on her back. Dad held her hand and we made for the exit.    Mum was very heavy, fat, swollen and big bellied. I fear for how she will make it.   Admist screams and panic, my dad ran with mum and I into the wild for safety.   At that point, I recalled my favourite song and started singing. Dad placed a palm on my mouth with a stern face which meant I should keep shut. I smiled wondering why I could not sing in the midst of the fire works.   Mum shrieked in pain. "What is it Honey?" My dad asked "I think I'm losing him" my mum replied. "O God not now" my dad whispered in frustration. "What do you need? What can I do t...

No one notices your flaws You perfectly conceal them But I know You are scared that I do So you want to paint me as someone controversial Pa...
