THE WAR

THE WAR
...And that was how the war started. Gun shots everywhere, commotion, fire, people screaming. I woke up in shock wondering if it was a dream. My mum was heavy with my brother. Dad was trying soo hard to get the family together.
Mother snatched me from the bed, strapped me on her back. Dad held her hand and we made for the exit.
Mum was very heavy, fat, swollen and big bellied. I fear for how she will make it.
Admist screams and panic, my dad ran with mum and I into the wild for safety.
At that point, I recalled my favourite song and started singing. Dad placed a palm on my mouth with a stern face which meant I should keep shut. I smiled wondering why I could not sing in the midst of the fire works.
  Mum shrieked in pain.
"What is it Honey?" My dad asked
"I think I'm losing him" my mum replied.
"O God not now" my dad whispered in frustration.
"What do you need? What can I do to make you feel better?" Dad asked still undercover in the bush with the chaos.
"I don't know but I'm in pains sweet." My mum replied in a weak tone.
"Cassandra?" My mum called for me
"Come close to me baby"
I came close to her and she held me tightly.
I saw tears streak down my father's eyes.
"Honey don't leave me please," he pleaded.
"We will pull through I promise you. Just hold on, I will get us to safety please, please." My dad held my mums hands so tightly I thought it will pull of.
"Look!" I screamed
MuM was bleeding, I later learnt she was having a miscarriage.
"Oh, no, oh God, honey no!" my dad said in panic.
My mum smiled and looked at him
"I'm going to a better place" she said.
"No you are not, stop saying that"
My dad said admist a pool of tears.
"Cassandra, you are the best and will always be my baby." Mum told me but I didn't understand why she resounded that. What was going to happen?
"Lean closer to me" mum requested.
Dad did lean closer and she kissed him.
"I love you Shaun" she said her last words as she gave up the ghost.
Dad groaned inwardly.
"Don't leave me Sarah, Sarah, Sarah"
I felt a rush of blood to my forehead. "Mum, mum" I shook her.
"Dad, is mum sleeping? Wake her up Dad, wake her dad"
Mum never woke up.
I looked at my arms and they were stained with blood, my mums blood or my brothers blood, I couldn't tell.
My dad groaned all night, while I looked on wishing it was all a dream.
Morning dawned, the war was over, people came out from their hideouts, lamenting over what was lost, rejoicing over what and who was found.
There I lay with my mum and dad. Dad looked strangely cold.
"Dad! Dad! Wake up, the war is over"
Dad never woke up. I tried everything, sang his favourite song, said the favourite words, danced the favourite dance but dad never did wake up. I looked closely and saw the traces of stale blood, dad was hit.
I looked around, every mum was running to her child and every child found a parent but I never found any.
Although with me but not with me. At that point, the world spinned around me and I looked at it.
The war is over, but I'm all alone.
I tell my story from the camp of soldiers fighting the war, as one of the few females in the team, I know I have a lot to learn. Praying and preaching peace. I have found someone, something I need to share with the world. Although alone, but truly loved and in love. I miss my dad, I miss my mum.

OBLIVION

She was out later than usual. She just had a lot of work to cover so she could earn more and rest too. She never stayed out this late. As a single mum, in a new town, she made sure she was always available for her eleven year old Misheal.   It started as a light shower, then a heavy downpour. Disappointed looking at her titanium plated wristwatch which was already washing off, she checked the time at the same time recalling when she first got the watch.   It was a lovely Sunday afternoon. Elvis hurried to meet up with her from his recess. He bought her lunch, a plate of chicken and fries with a cup of cappuchino her favourite.   She was overjoyed when she saw the simple gift. Even though it was not worth much, but coming from Elvis even in the midst of the financial crisis he faced, it was everything.  " You didn't have to do this Elvis." She said half smiling, mouth agape, fingers covering her mouth hiding her expression.  "I'd do anything for you Ma ...

GENIUS

To the one genuis, yes you I know you. You think you can hide in that facade of perfect illusion But I broke through it. I still know you Completely You care about your looks, sometimes you know you don't look so good But you say you have no dress sense and you are clad with humour, Everyone laughs it off But it's just a ploy to divert everyone's attention from your fear of bad looks You say you know me, Yes you claim to know everyone They believe in you They trust you Instead you create a group of blind followers What you claim to be Is like sands on the sea Infinite and impossible You are a good performer On stage you tremble You are stricken with tension But you say you are always ready then coat it with I don't even know if I'm ready and seal it with an encouragement to a fellow performer. No one notices your flaws You perfectly conceal them But I know You are scared that I do So you want to paint me as someone controversial Pa...
