COMFORT

She refused to be comforted. She wailed with as much gusto as she could muster. Throwing books, paper, biro and even the table itself all over the place.
"Maam can you be calm please." The counsellor pleaded but Maria refused to be calm.
She was yet through another relationship that had turned abusive again. She felt she was cursed. In a bid to narrate her story, she lost it and began to tear apart everything in her way.
Miss Sherly Counter had seen a whole lot of worse cases but none as terrible as this. Maria was going through a lot of pain she thought. How could she be of help? This is more difficult than she could imagine.
"Maria, will you let me help?"
"Leave me alone!" Maria screamed.
"I should leave you alone?" Sherly resounded. "Then what are you doing in my office then? You probably should go display your madness elsewhere" Sherly angrily blurted out too quickly before realising she can't take it back.
 Strangely Maria became calm.
"Is there something wrong with me?" Maria asked with a croaky voice caused by incessant sobbing and wailing.
"No, you are perfectly okay" Sherly replied.
"Then why all these, why can't I find someone who loves me for me, cherish me, values me and will be stronng for me in my weakness."
"Erm that I can't tell dear. You are very valuable but these persons are yet to understand that" Sherly replied as she reached her hand for Maria's who withdrew.
"Understand what? What's there to understand. I am good to everyone that comes my way, they always have a good story to tell, but then they leave me hanging and drained."
Sherly was simply confused at this point. Maria was a very beautiful lady. Smooth chocolate skin, black silky hair, a face that seems almost perfect, big eyes, small nose which Sherly thought were a bit too small, round full lips, tall, slender, round bossom, wide hips, she definently is perfect, Sherly concluded in her thoughts.
Beauty is vain, Maria was also a lady of beautiful character, why did she meet the wrong people. What can be done? A rush of thoughts flooded Sherly's mind then suddenly there sprung up an idea.
"Maria, stop sobbing, I know who can be of help to you"
"Who?" Maria asked with a faint glow of hope.
"Have you met Jesus?"
"Jesus? Who's that? The Mayor?"
"You find satisfaction, fufillment in man, but man being imperfect cannot give you these. Maria your true worth is in Christ Jesus. He can give you all you need, security, satisfaction, fufillment. He's a great lover, he never gets tired of loving"
"There exist someone like that?" Maria asked
"Yes dear, people treat you based on what they have and what they know...
Suddenly, Maria's smooth face seemed to brighten up. She wanted to meet Jesus. There was an aura of hope around her.
There and then, Maria accepted the life of Jesus in her. What peace and joy that flooded her heart.
Sherly invited Maria to her church. Sherly felt relieved that it was over, being a counsellor in a town like this was no small job.
Few minutes after, she got another visitor.
"I feel that in every relationship I've been in, they tend to take advantage of my nice and good nature. She never loves me, she's just after what she can get." Came the deep husky voice.
Sherly looked up to see the owner of the voice. A young man in his mid twenties just like Maria. It seems the young people of this town have a lot of relationship issues. She sighed in despair.

OBLIVION

She was out later than usual. She just had a lot of work to cover so she could earn more and rest too. She never stayed out this late. As a single mum, in a new town, she made sure she was always available for her eleven year old Misheal.   It started as a light shower, then a heavy downpour. Disappointed looking at her titanium plated wristwatch which was already washing off, she checked the time at the same time recalling when she first got the watch.   It was a lovely Sunday afternoon. Elvis hurried to meet up with her from his recess. He bought her lunch, a plate of chicken and fries with a cup of cappuchino her favourite.   She was overjoyed when she saw the simple gift. Even though it was not worth much, but coming from Elvis even in the midst of the financial crisis he faced, it was everything.  " You didn't have to do this Elvis." She said half smiling, mouth agape, fingers covering her mouth hiding her expression.  "I'd do anything for you Ma ...

THE WAR

THE WAR ...And that was how the war started. Gun shots everywhere, commotion, fire, people screaming. I woke up in shock wondering if it was a dream. My mum was heavy with my brother. Dad was trying soo hard to get the family together.    Mother snatched me from the bed, strapped me on her back. Dad held her hand and we made for the exit.    Mum was very heavy, fat, swollen and big bellied. I fear for how she will make it.   Admist screams and panic, my dad ran with mum and I into the wild for safety.   At that point, I recalled my favourite song and started singing. Dad placed a palm on my mouth with a stern face which meant I should keep shut. I smiled wondering why I could not sing in the midst of the fire works.   Mum shrieked in pain. "What is it Honey?" My dad asked "I think I'm losing him" my mum replied. "O God not now" my dad whispered in frustration. "What do you need? What can I do t...

To the one genuis, yes you I know you. You think you can hide in that facade of perfect illusion But I broke through it. I still know you Completely You care about your looks, sometimes you know you don't look so good But you say you have no dress sense and you are clad with humour, Everyone laughs it off But it's just a ploy to divert everyone's attention from your fear of bad looks You say you know me, Yes you claim to know everyone They believe in you They trust you Instead you create a group of blind followers What you claim to be Is like sands on the sea Infinite and impossible You are a good performer On stage you tremble You are stricken with tension But you say you are always ready then coat it with I don't even know if I'm ready and seal it with an encouragement to a fellow performer. No one notices your flaws You perfectly conceal them But I know You are scared that I do So you want to paint me as someone controversial Pa...
